SCHOOL OF ADULT EDUCATION

The “School of Adult education”, under the aegis of Mishmi Hills foundation laid the foundation of adult learning center on 1st July 2017 for those unfortunate, who could not see the light of school in their child hood.Mishmi Hills Foundation, an NGO working in Anjaw district targeted those adults’ especially the women, who missed seeing the door of school in their child hood due to parents ignorance and other social obligations. During the survey done in the adjoining villages of Hawai, it was found that, the desire to learn among women was very high. The Mishmi Hills foundation aftermath of the survey, seeing the positive response and eagerness of women folk to learn, envisioned providing platform to these women.
• Many of the women could not attend school due to social prejudice that existed in Mishmi Community few decades back. It was a common notion that, girls were born to do household work, agriculture and allied activities during their stay in parents home and thereafter to be married off. It was parents belief that, investment on girls education was not worthy, in spite of the parents financial soundness. Though, with the advent of modern education in Mishmi society, the social prejudice against girl child has mitigated and the level of spending on girl’s education has increased manifold, but the repercussion of earlier social prejudices has done damage to the community, as there are many adult women illiterate in the age group of twenty to Sixties.
Why the select Group Adults desire to study:
• Could not attend school in their childhood but they desire to learn.
• Face difficulty while out of village especially out of state while visiting Tinsukia for marketing and Dibrugarh for medical purpose.
• Face difficulty while admitting their child to private school.
• Face difficulty in doing business at it needs knowledge of basic math’s.
• Some illiterate person who are in panchayat face difficult in reading and understanding circulars and govt schemes.
• Some of the adults can read and write as they took tuition but they want to upgrade their knowledge in reading and writing.
• Some Adults attended school up to primary level during their childhood but not able to read and write thereby, the need to upgrade reading and writing skills
Benefit of the programme:
• The programme shall teach English, Hindi and Mathematics with special focus on reading and writing skills.
• Helping those students who want to pursue higher education through national open schooling.
• Education would improve economic and social status of family.
• Understand govt. programmes and schemes and avail the opportunities.
